Time For New Carpet

Time For New Carpet

Is it time to replace your carpet?

It’s a fact of life – carpet won’t last forever. No matter how often you clean it or how careful you are, eventually everyone has to replace their carpet. But how would you know when the right time is? There’s no set length of time. There are guidelines, but honestly, depending on the wear and tear, it could be less time than you think.

Old carpet
First of all, is your carpet old? It may seem like common sense to some, but many homeowners just don’t understand the lifetime of carpet. If you’re still using that carpet from the 90s, or maybe you’re just professionally cleaning it regularly, it’s probably time for an upgrade. Most manufacturers say that carpet should last around ten years. Again, that’s an estimate and not a rule; there are plenty of exceptions.

Stains

We totally understand stains. Every carpet has stains. Eventually, those stains add up, and you’re running out of ways to cleverly cover them with rugs or furniture. Of course, you should try to get it professionally cleaned first. Professional Carpet Cleaners can perform miracles, but unfortunately, they’re not 100% effective. That’s when you know it’s time to replace your carpet.

Wear and tear
Unless you never set foot on your carpet, there’s going to be wear and tear. Foot traffic might lead to matted areas. Maybe someone accidentally ripped a bit, and it’s getting worse and worse by the day. Like with stains, are you covering up ugly spots on furniture and rugs? If you can relate to any of these, then it’s probably time to think about getting new carpet.

Smells

Carpets, like fabrics, hold the scent. Homeowners with pets can understand this. Even if your dogs and cats are perfectly trained, eventually the carpet will just absorb their odors. Then, of course, there are the natural scents that can soak into the carpet. Whether it’s from moisture in the air, spills, or any of the numerous other causes, if you still have the smell after cleaning, then it’s time to replace it.
